LightPick Tube Picking System for Labs | Alternative to Ziath Mohawk

The Krol Inventions LightPick is a straightforward, low-maintenance tube-picking system for laboratories and biobanks that need reliability without premium pricing. It offers a simple and robust way to streamline manual tube-picking workflows.

Unlike mechanical tube presenters, LightPick uses overhead projection to highlight exactly which tubes need to be removed from a 2D-barcoded rack. Slide the rack into place, the barcode is read automatically, and the required tubes light up on the deck. Pick them with a tube-picking pen or simple tweezers and move on to the next rack.

The LightPick software can automatically load and complete picklists without user interaction and provides detailed logging for quality control and traceability.

LightPick is designed as a practical alternative to systems like the Ziath Mohawk tube presenter. If you need fast guidance and reduced error rates, but don’t want a EUR 25k mechanical system with moving parts and regular servicing, LightPick keeps things simple, affordable, and reliable.

It fits naturally into real laboratory workflows: rack on, tubes lit, pick, done. The system is under active development, with planned extensions for multi-rack layouts and pipetting guidance. Early prototypes already run reliably and integrate with standard 2D-barcoded labware.

If your lab, research group, or biobank needs an accessible, robust, and cost-effective tube-picking solution, LightPick is exactly that. The projected price is in the EUR 7,000–8,000 range.
